A Word From the Minister 4/17/24

As part of our ongoing exploration of the theme of interdependence, this coming Sunday we will be having our Flower Communion. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this ritual, everyone is being asked to bring a flower to the service. As part of the celebration of our diversity and the community that we share, we collect the flowers and redistribute them later in the service.

The day before this coming Sunday’s Flower Communion service, the cluster gathering will be held at Hilton Christian Church at 100 James River Dr., Newport News. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Peninsula is hosting this year, and it looks like the planning team has put together a day of interesting activities. Included among them is a presentation that I will be giving on Article II.

April 22nd is Earth Day. Here at CVUU at 6:30 pm, we are showing the documentary film Common Ground. It unveils the dark web of money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. Don’t miss it!

This month, we will be giving away 50% of what we receive in our Sunday offering plate to the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center. You can find out more about them here: https://jcoc.org/.

Interdependence is one of our values, but love is at the center. And so, I close this week with “One Love” by Bob Marley and the Wailers.

In peace and love,

Rev. Viola
