RE Happenings 6/9/21

This past Sunday we talked about the rainbow flag and what it means to different folks.  Rainbows are beautiful things. They show us colors of light. Rainbows are sung about, and stories told about rainbows. [Over the Rainbow song, the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.] A rainbow is also the symbol of PRIDE month. It symbolizes all of the colors and all of the ways in which people in the world are beautiful. It means that those who are LGBTQ have love and PRIDE for who they are.

The theme this month is Play. When we think about Play, we often think first of something fun; “just for fun.” But play also helps us with understanding. For PRIDE month we can play with rainbows in our meditation, in games, in a variety of ways, all of which help us feel the beauty of differences, the support of diversity, the celebration of who we all are as a community.  This past Sunday all of the children watched a video titled “Desmond is Amazing” which is about a child expressing his true self.  The older children went into breakout rooms to discuss the video.  The younger ones remained and then watched a video about how the rainbow flag was created and learned about Harvey Milk and how one person can contribute and make a difference.

No Religious Education on 6/13 & 6/20

We do not have Religious Education on the Sundays of 6/13 (end of the school year) and 6/20 (in-person service).  We will resume our normal RE schedule on 6/27 throughout the summer.

Mark the Date!  7/12 – 7/16/21 Chalice Camp 11 AM to 12 PM

We will be having a hybrid Chalice Camp that will be both virtual on Monday 7/12 and Friday 7/16.  Tuesday through Wednesday that week we will be having a camp in person.  There will be three groups (A, B, & C).  Two will be on CVUU grounds and one at Stumpy Lake.  Stay tuned for more details to come.

Children’s Chalice Chapel begins at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays and is usually done around 10:15 AM.  Sometimes we go a little longer due to having too much fun.  We are always done in time for the church service at 10:30 AM.
