RE Happenings 10/27/21

“The theme this month is Cultivating Relationships. Last Sunday in Religious Education we discussed how cultivating relationships requires empathy and caring. Relationships can’t grow with selfishness and meanness. Our faith lifts this up in our commitment to the principle of building “justice, equity and compassion in human relations.” It tells us, “None of us can make it on our own and compassion feeds us all.”

We showed a picture of a hand sign where two hands are used to form a heart which represents love and one way we show those close to us that we love them is by treating them with compassion and caring for them. Compassion and caring are so important to UUs that we’ve put them into our principles. We say we covenant to build “justice, equity, and compassion in human relations.”  And the covenant is a fancy word for “promise.” So we are a faith that promises to love and care for one another. Therefore some UUs use the phrase “Love the Cov” when we do this hand sign. 

We explored the skill of loving and caring for each other by watching a video on the “The Parable of Long Handled Spoons.”  Here is a link to the YouTube video:

TRUNK OR TREAT IS SATURDAY! We have 34 children registered and 24 vehicles to kick off the first-ever Trunk or Treat at CVUU! We will have a costume parade along with candy gathering. Activities are from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers bringing decorated vehicles must arrive by 9 a.m. For all the details for both parents and volunteers, CLICK HERE.

2021-2022 Religious Education Registration: We would like the guardians who are planning on their children and youth to participate in the virtual religious education program and in-person events for the 2021-2022 year and those planning on their children to attend only in person Religious Education events to register with our online form here.

Children’s Chalice Chapel begins at 9:45 AM on Sundays and is usually done around 10:15 AM.  Sometimes we go a little longer due to having too much fun.  We are always done in time for the church service at 10:30 AM.    Here is the Zoom link and password to get in.
