Oct. 28 Adult Discussion

Sunday’s discussion topic is “Nuns vs. Nuclear Weapons”

Facilitators: Sisters Carol Gilbert and Ardeth Platte from Pax Christi

Sisters Ardeth Platte and Carol Gilbert are Religious women of the Dominican order, whose motherhouse is in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They are in the area at the invitation of Pax Christi Hampton Roads, the local branch of the international Catholic peace movement.

Ardeth and Carol have been working against nuclear weapons and war for over 40 years. They have spent years in jail for their nonviolent war resistance including several plowshares actions. They were at the United Nations for last year’s conference drafting the Treaty on the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons and have been teaching the Treaty in schools and churches and delivering it to military bases and nuclear weapons makers ever since.

They have lived their lives in community, not only with their sister nuns but at Jonah House in Baltimore and currently at Dorothy Day Catholic Worker in Washington DC.

Adult Discussion meets each Sunday in Room 205 before our 10:30 a.m. service. If you are interested in leading a discussion, talk to Richard H. at church or send an email to comm-coordinator@ucnorfolk.org with Adult Discussion in the subject line.

Childcare is available.
