From the Minister 6/15/22

Dear Ones,

This coming Sunday is our last regular service before we enter into the summer.  And it is a special Sunday for more reasons than that.  It is Father’s Day, New Member Sunday, and Juneteenth!  Truly a day on which to celebrate our blessings!  I hope you will join us.

Another very special thing about June is that it is Pride month.  There have been a lot of activities in the Hampton Roads area, and there are still more to come.  PrideFest is coming up on June 25th, and I am sure that will be an event not to be missed.  But another event not to miss is the Hampton Roads LGBTQAI+ Interfaith Gathering on Tuesday, June 21st at 7:00 pm at Ohef Sholom Temple at 530 Raleigh Avenue in Norfolk. Unfortunately, there has been a lot in the news about gun violence.  But, what some of you may not know is that this week is Safe Firearm Storage Outreach Week in Virginia Beach, and Behavioral Health Wellness and Prevention Services in Virginia Beach’s Department of Human Services is providing cable and trigger locks free of charge in support of suicide means reduction.  If you are interested, send an email to  For more information about gun safety, visit

Next week I will be at the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly in Portland, OR, and after that, I will be on study leave for two weeks.  But do not worry, you will all be in very good hands.  Stephanee Howell chairs our Lay Pastoral Care Team, and they will be able to handle most pastoral care issues.  For other matters, know that we have wonderful staff in place who can handle most things that come up and our Congregational Administrator Susie Administrator is always available to answer your questions.

Tomorrow will be the last Check-In and Chat until August; I hope that many of you can attend.

In closing, and in keeping with our monthly theme, Celebrating Blessings, I will leave you with “Golden” by Jill Scott.  May we all celebrate our blessings and live our lives like they are golden.

In peace and love,

Rev. Viola
