From the Minister 6/1/22

Dear Ones,

The worship theme for June is Celebrating Blessings.  With so much that is going on in the world right now, that is often a difficult thing to do. There is so much that we need to do to make a positive change, but that does not mean that we cannot take the time to appreciate all the wonderful things that do exist in our lives right now.  Sometimes those are the things that give us the strength to do what needs to be done.

We are still reeling from the news of the mass shooting in Uvalde, TX, and the Washington Post reported earlier this week that there were at least 15 more events that would have qualified as mass shootings.  On Sunday, I spoke about how our principles called us into action.  But one of the questions I got was, “What action?” This is something that cannot be said enough, effective change on this issue can only come through legislative action at the federal level. Last week I provided all of you with information to make it easy for you to contact your members in Congress. If you have not already done so, write to them, call them, and email them to tell them they need to enact common sense gun control laws. If you do not know who they are, you can find their names by visiting You can even contact them through that website.  Don’t forget, voting is the only way that we can hold our elected officials accountable.  So, please check your voter registration status, or register to vote, by visiting this page:, and then vote!

We will be having Pathway to Membership classes at 10:00 a.m. on June 4th and 11th, and a New Member service on June 19th. We already have a few people who have signed up, and we still have plenty of room, especially on June 11th.  If you are interested in participating, and if you haven’t already indicated your interest, please send an email to me at  If you want to talk more about this, I invite you to schedule a time to speak with me at this link

The General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association will be taking place from June 22 to June 26, 2022, in Portland, Oregon. It will be multi-platform, so you can participate virtually if that is your preference. Aside from the fact that it is a great event to participate in, CVUU needs delegates to represent the church in the business meetings where decisions are made about the future of the denomination. These delegates will also report back to the church on what has taken place. If you think you might like to provide this valuable service to CVUU and have the opportunity to meet and hear about Unitarian Universalists from all over the country, please send me an email at The best part is that it doesn’t have to cost you anything to participate in GA if all you want to do is be a delegate and attend the business meetings. To find out more about this year’s General Assembly, visit this link,, and if you think you’d like to participate, please send me an email.

In keeping with the theme this month, in spite of everything, one of the ways we can celebrate our blessings is to take the time to be thankful for all of the goodness that is in our lives.  And, so, I close this week with “Be Thankful,” by Natalie Cole.

In peace and love,

Rev. Viola
