Weekly Posts

This page gives information needed by the staff to maintain the site including preparation of the following post types.

  • Single event: use New -> Event menu item
  • Recurring event: use New -> Recurring Event menu item
  • Charlie’s Column: use New -> Post and set the post category to “by minister”
  • Weekly Adult Discussion topic: use New -> Post and set the post category to “adult discussion”
  • Weekly Service announcement: use New -> Service and set the published on date to the meeting day
  • Youth RE update: use New -> Post and set the post category to “religious education”
  • News post: use New -> Post and set the post category to “news”

For all posts, set the publish date to 00:01 of the first day that you would like the post to run. The tiles at the bottom show 2 or 3 most recent posts so getting too far ahead will push the posts of interest out of the window.

It is important that you set the category as described because the front page text boxes in widget positions Home 6, Home 7, and Home 8 rely upon these categories to select the proper items.

Slide shows

The Meta Slider plugin provides a flexible slideshow type. You can create multiple shows, theme the show appearance, change transition type, transition duration, and exhibit duration, etd. Additional plugins allows scheduled show changes in the future, etc.

  1. Navigate to the Dashboard.
  2. Select MetaSlider from the sidebar
  3. Select the show to be modified or create a new show.
  4. Add or replace slides as needed from media in the library or from a URL
  5. Set the caption if you want one.
  6. In the link below the image, set a link to a URL (internal or external) that will be taken if the user clicks the image.

Content Expiration

The post-expirator plugin supports content expiration. Posts, pages, and carousel images may be set to expire.

To cause a post to expire at a time, do the following.

  1. Open the Post Expirator dialog in the right sidebar.
  2. Check Enable Post Expiration
  3. Set the year, month, and day of expiration
  4. Set the hour and minute of expiration. 00 is midnight and appears at the end of the list. I recommend setting the minute to 01 as 00:00 is ambiguous to people but not computers which will represent the date and time as a single number of something after some epoch date.
