Congratulations to CVUU

CVUU members’ hard work on making our campus grounds attractive and restorative to the tidal river and marsh areas surrounding it has paid off. We have been recognized for our fidelity to this task by both the Elizabeth River Project and Lynnhaven Now.

From Barbara Gelzer, our grounds guru:

Thank you for your hard work at all the work parties(and meetings—  continuing CVUU’s stewardship of our 9-acre home. And for keeping the grounds beautiful and welcoming. The Elizabeth River Project has recognized your continuing efforts with their highest award.

The Elizabeth River Project has been supporting us since 2017. We also received recognition from Lynnhaven River Now, which provided $1500 this year for plants and materials. Their Pearl Faith coordinator, Helen Kuhns,  visited CVUU several times to guide our efforts and help plan the work.

This work reaches far beyond Virginia borders; you are part of a regional coalition to help restore the Chesapeake Bay.

From Elizabeth River Project’s Deputy Director Administration & River Star Businesses Program Manager:

It is a great pleasure to announce that Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalists is a Sustained Distinguished Performance River Star Business! Our River Restoration Advisory Committee, comprised of River Star peers and technical experts, reviews River Star documentation every fall for entry and advancement in the program. The committee unanimously agreed Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalists should be recognized for Sustained Distinguished Performance at Achievement Level. Sustained Distinguished Performance represents completion of a significant new initiative by a River Star. You can be very proud of this outstanding achievement!

We look forward to celebrating your accomplishments at the Annual River Star Businesses Recognition Luncheon, which will be held in-person on Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at The Founders Inn. Join us later that day at 4:00 p.m. for an in-person Happy Hour in Norfolk (stand-by for location). Don’t miss this chance to celebrate your achievements. More details on registration and logistics to follow.

Thank you for your stellar progress this year to help restore the Elizabeth River!
