The CVUU Board of Directors met via Zoom on November 21, 2024. Board meeting minutes are typically available upon request from the CVUU Board Secretary or the Congregational Administrator ( Susie Gullixson) approximately 30 days after the Board meeting date. The Board meets every month, either via Zoom or in person. The meeting is usually on the third Thursday of each month at 7 pm. The meeting is open to congregants to observe. Congregational members who want to present items to the Board must notify CVUU Board President David Kidd before the meeting to include them on the agenda. The following is a synopsis of pertinent items. The next Board meeting will be December 19, 2024.
Rev Viola:
The Worship Services Committee will handle all worship services between Dec. 1st and Mar. 2nd during her Sabbatical leave, and Pastoral Associates will handle all pastoral care needs.
EPIC Study—The required organizational survey was completed by Nov. 15th. Many congregants filled out the Attender survey. CVUU has already received $1,250 of the $2,500.00 honorarium promised for participating in this survey. Completing this survey will also result in CVUU receiving a $200.00 gift card.
The Minister will continue to facilitate the Bereavement Group when present. One of the members, Richard Anderson, assumes that role when the Minister is away.
There are currently five Covenant Groups using the Soul Matters material. Two of the groups are long-standing and have consistent membership, and three are new and will end in June. One of the new groups is led by Merideth Henderson. The Minister co-facilitates two groups: one with Rev. Mark Wise and one with Lynda Simmons, a first-time facilitator. When the Minister is away, the co-facilitators will run these groups.
Rev Mark:
Greeters and Lisbet would like to have a teacher who is not teaching or someone from the LFDC to help greet families and talk about faith development at CVUU.
Soul Matters will be used for Grades 2-4 and Grades 5-6, and Spirit Play will be used for PreK-1st Grades.
Grades 7-12: Photography/Arts Class, Sept.- Dec. 2024, in the large room on the 3rd floor. When the class is complete, the youth will have an art show as the conclusion. Tentative plans for the Coming of Age Program, June 2025. We will have a Bridging Ceremony in June 2025.
Finance:
The Hague School has paid off its debt to CVUU with a single check of $81,344.52. The purpose of that money has already been designated as a part of our operating budget. We will put that money, or a significant portion of it, in an interest-bearing CD, one that we can withdraw from without penalty.
M.L. Brewer, CPA, has gotten all of our financial records that he needs, and he estimates that the work will take four weeks to do a 5-year financial review. We should have his report by our December board meeting. We will share this information with the Finance Committee. He has also agreed to file our application for 501c3 status as a non-profit with the IRS. The cost of that additional work will be $200. Dr. David Kidd said he would be happy to pay for this.
