We are beginning another church year, and I do not think any of us thought that we would be having to address the problems yet another COVID-19 variant poses for us. I was so looking forward to face-to-face interactions with all of you and being able to see your smiling faces without us having to wear masks. There are so many of you that I have not had an opportunity to meet, and that saddens me.
Notwithstanding the disappointment that this holds for all of us, or maybe because of it, our theme this month of “Embracing Possibilities” is particularly important for us. As difficult as it may seem, we should try to look for ways to grasp and hold onto the joy that comes into our lives, and maybe even create it if we can. There are so many ways to think about the possibility or even the probability of finding joy. But I think the most important thing to remember about possibilities is that they only exist for us when we are open to them.
This week we will have our first Check-In and Chat since the end of the spring. It will be on Thursday, Sept. 9th at 12:00 p.m. Bring your lunch, visit a little while and see what possibilities may unfold there.
We will have an in-person service on Sept. 12th in the Gathering Area at 11:00 a.m. Our virtual service will be at a new time, 9:00 a.m. Religious Education will still be virtual and will take place at the usual time, which is at 9:45 a.m. You will need to register for the in-person service at 11:00 a.m. Information about how to register is in this week’s Courier and will be on our website and Facebook page. Just like the June 20th service, masking and physical distancing will be required. These precautions will not absolutely keep us safe, but they will make gathering safer.
Don’t forget, a major part of recognizing the possibilities around us sometimes involves having an imagination. Because of that, I will close this week with “Just My Imagination,” by The Cranberries. May all our imaginations serve us well in these hard times.
