All I can say is “Wow!” Our first in-person worship was held in the Gathering Area this past Sunday! It was so wonderful to be together. And for me, it was the very first time that I have been in the presence of many of you! What a day! And a huge “thank you” to everyone who made it all possible! Being together, in whatever way that we can, is an important part of religious community. We can be spiritual all by ourselves, but as Unitarian Universalists we understand the importance of a supportive community in our spiritual growth and development. The Third Principle of Unitarian Universalism asks us to accept and encourage one another to spiritual growth. And whenever we are together, whether in person or not, we do exactly that!
If you did not make it to the Cottage Meeting to discuss reopening on Tuesday afternoon, there will be another one this evening at 7 p.m. The meeting information is here:
Zoom Meeting ID: 955 3840 8191
This is an important opportunity to share your thoughts.
Don’t forget, the General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association is this week. You can find a nice summary of some of the big (and free) things happening on our website here: https://www.c-vuu.org/uua-2021-general-assembly/. If you want to take advantage of all the opportunities for learning and connection that GA has to offer, registration is still open, and you can find out about that here: https://www.uua.org/ga/registration
This coming Sunday we will stream the worship that is a part of the GA program from the normal Zoom meeting room we use every Sunday, but the service will start at 12 p.m. However, we will open up the Zoom room at 11:30 a.m. for a brief coffee hour, so you can gather there before the service to chat. You will also have the option of viewing the worship on your own. The link is available here: https://www.uua.org/ga/off-site/2021/sunday-worship .
I will not be hosting another Check-In and Chat until the end of the summer. Two reasons for the hiatus of the Check-In and Chat are that I am participating in GA this week, and after that, I will be on leave. I will be back on July 12th to help with Chalice Camp. I will resume my leave on July 19th, and will not be returning until August 16th. But, in my absence, you will be in good hands. You can always reach someone on the Lay Pastoral Care Team by calling 757-632-4873. Also, there are some wonderful services planned for the weeks ahead, and I will even be present for a few of them. And, in the event of an emergency, if you really need me, our Congregational Administrator Susie Gullixson will know how to get in contact with me.
So, even though I will be back before then, here is “September,” by Earth, Wind & Fire.
Have a wonderful and safe summer!
In peace and love,
Rev. Viola Abbitt (She/Her/Hers)
