June is finally here, and although the summer solstice is not until June 20th, the tradition for many is that the Memorial Day holiday weekend marks the beginning of the summer. How fitting it is that our theme for the month of June is “Play?” With the CDC’s recommendations easing COVID-19 restrictions, more of us are almost certainly going to be taking advantage of opportunities to engage in all kinds of play in the months ahead . . . activities that many of us missed out on last year.
When I think of play, I think of children. And right now, because of the lack of an approved vaccine for those under the age of 12, I think of them a lot. The members of our community which fall within that age group, as well as others who cannot be vaccinated or who have other risk factors, are among the most vulnerable of us. As we plan activities at home, work, school and church, our First and Seventh Principles require that we take them into consideration in all that we do.
And as we talk about reopening at CVUU, we are going to need all kinds of help with our worship services and other events. If you are interested in helping out, please email me at email@example.com, and put “Volunteer” in the subject line.
I have been away for a while, but the Check-In-and-Chat is back and will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Zoom. I hope to see you there! Click here to join or enter the Zoom meeting information (Meeting ID: 870 1011 9918 and Passcode: 4430).
And in honor of June, summer, the easing of the CDC’s guidelines, and opening up, here is a song which is a lot of fun . . . and it certainly puts me in a playful mood, “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus:
