Dear Ones,

February certainly is a month of love! This coming Sunday, we will be having our New Member Sunday! I hope that all of you will be there to welcome our newest CVUUers and show them YOUR love!

As some of you may know, the liberal faith that is ours has a lengthy history in Hampton Roads. A precursor to our beloved CVUU was the Universalist Church of Norfolk, which was established in 1887. It was founded by the Rev. Joseph Jordon (pronounced “Jerdon”). What is so significant about him is that he was the first African American ordained as a Universalist minister. This week the cluster of Unitarian Universalist religious professionals who are working in the southern part of Virginia decided to honor him. You will be proud to know that at their meeting this month they renamed the cluster the Joseph Jordon Cluster.

February ends the last of the weekly Vespers Services. Beginning in March, the Vespers Service will be held at the same time, but only once a month, on the third Wednesday.  A night was chosen that had the fewest number of activities so that we could have the greatest participation. I hope that those of you who have not been able to attend, or to volunteer, in the past will be able to do so now.

Don’t forget, the Theme Reflection is on the fourth Monday which will be this coming Monday, Feb. 22nd at 6 p.m., and next week on the fourth Sunday at 2 p.m.  We will be talking about the theme of Beloved Community.  Pick the day and time that is more convenient for you and come and bring your thoughts about the topic. I look forward to seeing you.
