This week brings us fully into our second holiday season of the COVID-19 pandemic. A pandemic that some say will become an endemic.  What that means is that we need to continue to be as safe as we possibly can as we travel to gather with family and friends.  Even though we went through this last year, it does not make it any easier.

As a reminder to those of you who may identify as transgender or non-binary, the Joseph Jordan Cluster of Religious Professionals is helping to facilitate the creation of a regional, self-led, and organized group of trans and non-binary adult UUs.  The purpose of this group would be to have a safe space for you to discuss your UU faith and other issues unique to being a part of UU communities.  If this is something that you might want to participate in, send me an email at minister@c-vuu.org

Because of the holiday and my vacation that will follow, there will be no Check-In and Chat tomorrow or next week.  The next Check-In and Chat will be on Dec. 9th.

Even though I will be away until December 4th, don’t worry.  As always, you can reach out to the Lay Pastoral Care Team by calling them at 757-632-4873 or by emailing them at laypastoralcare@c-vuu.org.  If someone really needs to reach me in the event of an emergency, Susie Gullixson our Congregational Administrator knows how to get in touch with me.

Another thing about December 4th is that it happens to be the same day as the Kwanzaa Bazaar.  I hope to see you there!

Notwithstanding all the things that have made these last two years very difficult ones, try to take the time each day to find at least one thing that you are grateful for.  Journal about it. Put it in a note on your smartphone.  Write it down on a sticky note and put it on your bathroom mirror. There is always something in our lives that gives us joy. We just need to remember to name it.  And, with that, I share with you this song by Nimo, called “Grateful:”

Have a blessed and safe holiday!

In peace and love,

Rev. Viola
