Dear Ones,

This week is Transgender Awareness Week and this coming Saturday, Nov. 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR).  TDOR honors the memory of those in the transgender community whose lives were lost because of violence committed against them.  To find out more about TDOR, visit https://www.glaad.org/tdor. As a Welcoming Congregation, CVUU has already done a lot of work helping and advocating for and supporting our LGBTQ siblings.  But the world is still an inhospitable and dangerous place for those who identify as transgender and non-binary.  As a congregation, we should explore what we are called to do as Unitarian Universalists.  One of the things that we can do is renew our status as a Welcoming Congregation by participating in the Five Practices of Welcome Renewal program.  You will be hearing more from me about that in the future. To find out more about TDOR, visit https://www.glaad.org/tdor

And, for those of you who may identify as transgender or non-binary, there has been some interest in the Joseph Jordan Cluster of Religious Professionals about helping to facilitate the creation of a regional and self-led, and organized group of trans and non-binary adult UUs to enable them to discuss their UU faith and issues unique to being a part of UU communities.  Members of at least two congregations, including ours, have expressed an interest in being part of such a group. If this is something that you might want to participate in, send me an email at minister@c-vuu.org

There is a Check-In and Chat with me on Thursday at 12 pm in Zoom. I hope that some of you can drop in during your lunchtime.  I look forward to spending time with you.  And don’t forget to bring your lunch!

I will be away from November 26th to December 3rd. But don’t worry.  Just as it was when I was away for part of this past summer, there is a plan in place.

In recognition of Transgender Day of Remembrance, I will share with you a compilation of songs set to a video honoring the more than 40 members of the trans community who have lost their lives to violence this year. May we do what we can to make the world a welcoming, accepting, and safe place for everyone.

In peace and love,

Rev. Viola
