Gloria Steinem once said, “Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.” Every moment gives us the opportunity to start over, to see new possibilities. Where our imagination can take us is only limited by what we are willing to do to make what we imagine a reality.
Starting over does not necessarily mean that everything that has gone before can or should be forgotten or forgiven. But starting over — getting a “do-over” — really presents us with a chance to make things better with the lessons that we have learned. We can bring about the change we want to see in the world. This is particularly important for us to remember now, individually, and as a nation.
One of the changes needed is the abolition of the death penalty. This is in line with our Unitarian Universalist values. Working toward this goal, for CVUU, is a logical extension of our efforts in adopting the 8th Principle, which affirms and promotes journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions. Our Social Justice Committee is working on a Public Stand to address this, but, in the interim write to your legislators to let them know your position on this vitally important issue.

It is abundantly clear that these are challenging times, but our imagination can get us through. Let’s hear Jackson Browne tell us more about that in “About My Imagination.”
In peace and love,
