Dear CVUU Members and Friends:
Sometimes deaths come in waves. This past Saturday, we said goodbye to longtime member Pat Chenault. It was a beautiful gathering with gracious hospitality and wonderful music; I’m sure Pat would have approved.
We have lost two more from our community.
Alex Saxton, who had only just started attending CVUU in August with her husband Ben and their young children Soledad and Gael when she was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor. Alex fought mightily, undergoing multiple rounds of chemo, radiation, and surgery, but she succumbed to the illness at home with her family on May 14. She was buried in a private ceremony, and a celebration of her life will be held this Sunday afternoon in Suffolk on the beach where she and Ben were married 10 years ago.
Mary Gaskill, a regular attendee at worship, the adult discussion group, and meditation groups was a lifelong learner and seeker. Mary died suddenly this past weekend while visiting her daughter in New York City. There will be a memorial service for Mary at CVUU sometime in the next few weeks. We send our love and prayers for comfort to all the loved ones of both Mary and Alex.
This coming Sunday, June 2nd we will take a look at the year we have spent together, and I will have the chance to say thank you to some of the many wonderful people who have helped make this year so spectacular.
We’re nearly there with our pledge drive. All we need is you. I’m going to increase my pledge by $50 a month, and because of the matching fund, that $50 becomes $100 a month. So if you haven’t yet pledged, now is the time, and if you’re thinking of making an increase to your pledge, this is a great time for that, too. We’re all in this together!
With love and gratitude for each and every one of you,
Rev. Justine Sullivan
Interim Minister, CVUU
